We all know that scents can have a dramatic effect on attraction. Pleasing scents can make us feel warm towards another person, and we can all associate a pleasing smell with a particular person.
With Valentine’s Day coming up, you may be thinking about how best to seduce your loved one. A new smell perhaps? Well, the idea of a ‘love potion’ is not so far-fetched as it sounds...
The origins of Piri Piri
A core ingredient of our Wood of Life, Piri Piri, has been known to do just that.
4 years ago, perfumer Michel Roudnitska was travelling in Amazonian forest as part of his research on shamanism. He met with an Indian tribe called the “Shipibo”.
They were using some unknown ingredients as a ‘love and friendship potion’ by burning it and inhaling the fumes. He found out these people used the rhizome of a papyrus as part of their sacred rituals.
Michel found out the extract of this rhizome, Piri-Piri (no connections with the chilli pepper), had a divine smell along with amazing spiritual properties. He then taught the Indian tribe how to extract this ingredient, helping them to make a living out of this sensual perfume.
However, he wasn’t alone. He partnered with a French NGO, Coeur De Foret, in order to extract the oil. This means that by buying the oil, people can help the Shipibo people and help the Amazon as well in the process.
The Wood Of Life
Here at Anima Vinci, we created the love potion, Wood of Life in order to showcase the amazing effects of Piri-Piri.
Wood of Life is the ‘love potion’ that brings a meditative state of mind. We call it “meditation in a bottle”. It is made up of Piri Piri and Palo Santo (meaning sacred wood in Spanish), and is a divine and calming smell, as well as alluring.
It’s base notes are sandalwood, vetiver, patchouli, piri piri, palo santo, leather note, musk, vanilla, with heart notes of Ylang ylang, rose, petitgrain, cinnamon, cloves, and top notes of bergamot, mandarin, grapefruit, mint, blue ginger. (Sounds amazing, right?)
The person who made this perfume for Anima Vinci is the son of one of the most famous perfumers in the world, Edmond Roudnitska :
Wood of Life around the world
In fact, the beautiful scent has become so popular it has been used in a new theatre production show. CAGES in Los Angeles have used the Wood of Life in their performances, by using a scent diffusion technology, so the audience get the full sensory experience, as the performance tells an epic love story :
Piri piri certainly seems to be something that is beneficial to lovers, as it’s sweet yet woody smell evokes a sensuousness that is difficult to capture in other perfumes.
So perhaps this is the year you could try it’s magical effects for yourself, or for a loved one. You never know, it might just be the aphrodisiac you were looking for.
